PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Thank you to all of our families for your support and cooperation during the recent traffic disruption near the school. Your patience and flexibility have helped keep our students safe during a challenging situation. Work in the area is still ongoing, and we will send an email to families once it has been completed and regular traffic flow can resume. As a reminder, please continue to pull into a designated parking spot before letting your child exit the vehicle, and move through the traffic flow as promptly as possible to keep congestion to a minimum. For full details and safety instructions, please refer to the principal’s email sent on December 8th.
DECEMBER FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES
This year our students have decided to take part in a fundraiser to benefit the Calgary Drop-In Centre. Here are some ways your children can get involved.
December 1 - 17 - Please bring in hygiene products and new or gently used winter gear for the Calgary Drop-In Centre. Here is a link to the Calgary Drop-In Centre's website where they list items of greatest need.
Our school is supporting the Calgary Drop-In Centre this month through a Winter Fundraiser. We have been collecting winter clothing (coats, gloves/mitts, toques, socks, winter footwear, long underwear) and hygiene items (chapstick, hand lotion, combs, deodorant, small tissue packs) for their Free Goods Program.
Students can bring donations to their homeroom, and items will be counted toward their House points. Donations will be accepted until December 17th.
Thank you for helping us support vulnerable Calgarians during the winter season.
PAJAMA DAY
We’re excited to celebrate Pajama Day! To keep the day fun, comfortable, and respectful for everyone, please follow these guidelines:
✔ What is allowed:
- School-appropriate pajama pants, onesies, or joggers
- T-shirts, long-sleeve tops, or pajama tops
- Cozy socks, slippers with hard soles (inside the school only), or regular shoes
- Stuffed animals (small enough to carry easily)
- Robes worn over clothing
✘ What is not allowed:
- No short shorts, boxers, or sleepwear that resembles underwear
- No pajamas with inappropriate graphics, language, or imagery
- No unsafe footwear (flip flops, soft-bottom slippers, or anything that could cause slips)
Other reminders:
- Pajamas must be clean and comfortable without causing distraction.
- Students should be prepared for regular school activities—including going outdoors for recess—so dress warmly.
- All school rules around respectful and safe clothing still apply.
- Students will still be participating in PE. Proper footwear and the ability to change into PE clothing is required.
Thank you for helping make Pajama Day fun and inclusive for everyone!
PLEASE CHECK FOR OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS
We kindly ask you to check with your child to see if they have any overdue library books from Sir Wilfrid Laurier. We currently have many books that are long overdue, and your cooperation in ensuring these items are returned as soon as possible is greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Ms. Kissel at mekissel@cbe.ab.ca.
Please note: If a book is not returned, the replacement fee will be applied to your child’s PowerSchool account in June.
Thank you for your support in helping us maintain our library resources for all students.
WINTER WEATHER REMINDERS
Calgary is experiencing the first taste of winter weather for the season this week. Snow, cold temperatures and wind chill can make getting to and from school challenging. Families are reminded that extra caution should be taken during the winter months and periods of extreme weather. You can find more information on our winter weather page.
Families should be prepared for transportation delays and check for the status of their bus in the morning. You can find more information, including transportation service provider apps, on the Using Transportation in Cold Weather page.
CBE Schools Rarely Close Due to Snow or Cold Temperatures
Assume that schools are open unless you hear otherwise from your school. Information regarding any school closures due to weather will be posted on the CBE website and social media, and shared with local news media.
Report Student Absences
We respect the right of parents/guardians to make their own decisions about sending their children to school. If your child will not be attending classes please ensure you contact your school's attendance line to report the absence.
