YEAR-END MESSAGE FROM THE LEARNING COMMONS

All library books are due back by Friday, May 29th. Please take a few minutes to help your child check at home for any outstanding items.

Books not returned by this date will be considered missing, and a replacement fee will be added to student PowerSchool accounts.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep our library collection complete and ready for all students to enjoy in September!

CELL PHONE POLICY REMINDER

As part of our commitment to creating a safe, focused, and respectful learning environment, we want to remind students and families that cell phones are not permitted for use during the school day. This expectation aligns with Alberta Education’s provincial Standards for the Use of Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media in Schools, which outline that student devices must be kept powered off and stored away during instructional time and throughout the school day. Students are expected to power down their phones and store them in their lockers upon arrival. If a student is leaving school property at lunchtime, they may take their phone with them; however, phone use is not permitted during lunch while on school grounds. If a phone is brought to class, it will be held in the office for the remainder of the day. Continued concerns may result in families being asked to pick up the phone from the office and meet with administration to support the student in following school expectations. Thank you for your continued support in helping maintain a positive learning environment for all students.

Tuesday, June 23 (9-10:15 am)

All students must be in the classrooms before 9 am.  Attendance will be taken and instructions will be given at that time.  Any student arriving after the start time of the exam must report directly to the office for instructions.  The Provincial Achievement Tests are timed tests so it is imperative that students arrive on time.  You can help your child do well on the tests if you ensure they are well rested, have eaten a good breakfast and come to school with a bottle of water, a healthy snack, and a book to read.  School bells will be turned off during exam times and we will not be able to call any students to the office as this interrupts students who are still writing the exam.

We would also like to remind parents that once exams are completed for the day, regularly scheduled classes continue for the remainder of the school day. We encourage students to stay and continue with their learning.

HOW TO FIND YOUR CHILD'S REPORT CARD IN MyCBE

Please refer to this video link if you need help viewing your child's report card. It is a quick video with the report card information right at the beginning.

You will be able to view your child's report card from June 25 to July 31, 2026.

We are wrapping up our 2025/2026 year for Lightning Athletics with Track and Field and have a few important reminders for all families.

  • Track and field forms must be handed in to Ms. Hemsing or Mr. Zentner by Thursday, May 28.
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for arranging transportation to and from Foothills Athletic Park. SWL will not provide buses. Please read the parent letter for full details.
  • Students who are not on the track and field team must attend regular classes at school on June 2. Students are only allowed to attend the track meet if a parent/guardian signed and returned the permission form.
  • If a student who is not on the team arrives at the track meet, the school will contact a parent/guardian, and the student must be picked up immediately.

 Thank you for your support,

 Ms. Hemsing
