Message from the Principal

IMPORTANT: Spectators at After School Games

We are looking forward to another great season and cheering on our students as they compete in various athletics events after school. CBE middle schools have set similar expectations for games that promote safety, respect, and a positive experience for all. They include:

  • All visiting student spectators/athletes must be under the direct supervision of a designated adult for the duration of the games. The only exception is for the first basketball game of the evening here at SWL. Students can stay for that game without an adult supervisor but must arrange for transportation home at 5:30pm as they will not be able to stay for later games without adult supervision.
  • Student spectators, at away games, without parental supervision will be directed by the hosting school administration to leave the building.
  • Cell phones must remain in bags. No photos or recordings can be made by students. This is a privacy concern for the athletes from all teams.
  • Parents are asked to be mindful if they are taking photos or videos of their child. The privacy of other student athletes should be considered.
  • All spectators - students or adults - are expected to cheer and support players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner.
  • Disrespectful behaviours will be addressed by school administration promptly and may result in spectators being directed to leave the game and the school building.
  • Parents/guardians who bring younger children are responsible at all times for their direct supervision. Please ensure that they are not wandering the halls and playing on phys ed equipment in the gym/on stage.

These expectations have been reviewed with all of our students in school. Please review with your children as well. We thank you in advance for your ongoing support.

Parking Lot Safety

Just a reminder parents – please do not park on the crosswalk between our school and Holy Family School.  We have already had some near misses with students and cars.

Also, if you are parking in the Staff parking lot to drop off or pick up students, please park in the spots adjacent to the lane.  The other spots are reserved for staff.

Sir Wilfrid Laurier is Scent-Free

This is just a reminder that Sir Wilfrid Laurier School is Scent-Free.  Please make sure your children do not bring colognes, perfumes, body or scented hair sprays or mists to school.

Attendance Message

  • At SWL attendance is taken for each of the seven periods of the day. If your child misses any part of a day or is late for any period, you will receive an attendance summary of all the periods not just the period missed.
  • The e-mail you will receive says, in part:
  • “This email is to inform you that your child, (Child’s name), has been marked as absent or late for either part or the whole day on (Date).
  • Below you will see some common attendance information:
    “P” before the name of the class that means the child was present for that class
    “A” before the name of the class means the child was absent for the class
    “AP” before the name of the class means the child is absent but a parent called
    “L” before the name of the class means the child was late for the class
    “FE” before the name of the class means the child was on a family holiday or event
    “LVE” before the name of the class means the child left early
    “LP” before the name of the class means late but parent called in
  • If you receive a call regarding your child’s attendance, please check your PowerSchool account for detailed attendance information. You can log in to your account at any time during the day to see the information as it is there once the teacher has submitted attendance each period of the day.

Athletics

Game & Practice Schedules

Students are required to check with their coaches for game and practice schedules.  The office does not have a list of schedule or time changes.
